Horizon Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program Overview
The Junior Olympic program was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace.
Horizon’s Junior Olympic Program is divided into three major segments.
1. The Developmental Level One is a non-competitive and achievement-oriented program. Gymnastics skills are introduced on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise for the girls. Skills for boys are introduced on Vault, high bar, floor exercise, trampoline, double mini, and rings. Students in the Trampoline & Tumbling Program are introduced to skills in level 1-4 of the T & T program on Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini. As the student progresses and masters the first level they will be promoted to level 2. Parents will be notified by the Program Director as to when their child should advance to the next class or level. Trampoline & Tumbling students train at their own pace on each event and can be a different level on each of the three events.
2. The second part consists of Compulsory Levels 2 thru 6. These levels are progressive in nature, building upon the skills required at the previous level. Competitive opportunities are provided up to and including the USA Gymnastics and AAU State and Regional Championships.
3. The third segment is Optional Levels 7-10, Excel Optionals and Modified Optionals. These levels have difficulty restrictions, while Levels 9 and 10 have no restrictions in the skill choice. Composition is evaluated at all Optional Levels, except Level 7. Horizon offers competitive teams for levels 2 and above.
