A full schedule of dance classes is offered by Janis Raven-Garvey, a former professional dancer with more than 35 years teaching experience. Her students have performed with "New York City Ballet", "Elliot Feld Ballet" On and Off Broadway and Touring Companies, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Cruise Ships and TV, in shows, commercials, PBS, and Music Videos. Her newest video debut in 2007.

Her competition dancers have received numerous overal "High Score Awards", Special Awards and Titles, at both Regional and National Competitions. In addition, Ms. Janis teaches a very special young children's program for ages 2 1/2 to 8. This copyrighted program was developed by Janis and has been used successfully for more than 30 years.

Dance with Janis has its annual RECITAL the 4th weekend in June at the beautiful North Port Performing Arts Center. All dance students are invited to perform, costumes are ordered during January. In addition, most students also do community performances in December. This year we did 5 and throughout the Spring our Competition dancers perform and compete February through May and usually go to Nationals in July. At my recital, all dancers are in a special CLOSING number. YES EVERYONE!, in addition to their class dances. At the end of my show each dancer receives a trophy. Costume prices range from $55 to $75 and are used for class dances, and then community performances and/or competitions. Opening/closing numbers do not generally require any special costuming. One class-one costume. Parents are ALWAYS welcome to view each dance class from the hallway. DRESS REHEARSAL - Friday, June 27, 2008 beginning at 6:00 p.m. RECITAL - June 28, 2008 (Saturday) @ 7:00 p.m.

For young girls - Any color leotard (no attached net tutus), tan or pink tights, Pink, CAPIEZO brand leather ballet slippers, tan tap shoes (available from Janis). Hair up, off the neck and face and secured. No jewelry, beads, dangle earrings or bracelets.

Older Females - Black/solid color leotard, pink or tan tights. Short skirts okay for ballet, black shorts are ok for other dance forms. NO PANTS! NO JEWELRY. Hair must be up in a bun or other hairstyle. SECURED off neck. See teacher for REQUIRED dance shoe styles.

Boys - Comfortable loose fitting pants/shorts and proper shoes.

All dancers with previous experience will be given a placement class. Accomplished dancers at least 9 years old may assist in younger classes. Older beginners will be placed in accelerated classes. To discuss schedules, privates, or assisting, call Janis after 10:00 a.m. days at (941) 423-8243.

The competition dancers of "Dance With Janis" recently competed at the "Starbound Regional" Dance Competition in Tampa, Florida. The team received 15 "Golds" and 5 "High Golds" and 3 of the "Highest Scores of the Day". Congratulations to the following dancers for a job well done:
