"Dance with Janis" at Horizon
A full schedule of dance classes is offered by Janis Raven-Garvey, a former professional dancer with more than 35 years teaching experience. Her students have performed with "New York City Ballet", "Elliot Feld Ballet" On and Off Broadway and Touring Companies, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Cruise Ships and TV, in shows, commercials, PBS, and Music Videos. Her newest video debut in 2007.
Her competition dancers have received numerous overal "High Score Awards", Special Awards and Titles, at both Regional and National Competitions. In addition, Ms. Janis teaches a very special young children's program for ages 2 1/2 to 8. This copyrighted program was developed by Janis and has been used successfully for more than 30 years.

Dance Attire:
For young girls - Any color leotard (no attached net tutus), tan or pink tights, Pink, CAPIEZO brand leather ballet slippers, tan tap shoes (available from Janis). Hair up, off the neck and face and secured. No jewelry, beads, dangle earrings or bracelets.
Older Females - Black/solid color leotard, pink or tan tights. Short skirts okay for ballet, black shorts are ok for other dance forms. NO PANTS! NO JEWELRY. Hair must be up in a bun or other hairstyle. SECURED off neck. See teacher for REQUIRED dance shoe styles.
Boys - Comfortable loose fitting pants/shorts and proper shoes.
Dance Descriptions
There are three levels of ballet offered at Horizon, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced (Pointe).
The emphasis of this program is a sound basic dance foundation and dance terminology. A teacher evaluation is recommended for the intermediate and advanced levels.
Jazz (ages 5 and above)
Jazz emphasizes the basics of this dance discipline, and also encourages a fun atmosphere. Students learn music appreciation through creative movement.
Hip Hop (ages 5 and above)
Hip Hop class develops the modern movements of dance using fast motion, flexibility and style. An upbeat and active class, Hip Hop focuses on learning new dance skills beyond those of classical dance.
Kiddles (ages 2 ˝ to 4 years)
This age dancer will be introduced to the beginner dance forms of Ballet and Tap. Movement to music, coordination and personality are taught through fun interactive dance instruction.
Kinderdance (ages 4-7 years)
This class is designed for the beginner dancer to introduce Ballet and Tap. Students discover learning leaps, turns, jumps and learn rhythm in this fun ballet and tap class.
